Rinse water pipes after a long break

Learn more why flushing your water pipes is crucial to keeping your drinking water clean!

Back in the office or at work after a long absence?
What about the water pipes?

When rinsing the cold water pipes the taps are fully opened and rinsed until a stable cold water temperature is reached. This first opens the taps that are farthest from the installation's connection to the drinking water network. After these cranes, we work towards the building connection.

Office buildings and workshops are sometimes no longer or less used for longer periods of time during the holidays or at other times. Will the activities be restarted after a while? Then it is advisable to flush the water pipes in the building firmly. It is very important that you do this to ensure the quality of your drinking water. This is very easy for cold water pipes.

More information can be found in this message from Aqua Flanders, and even more detailed in these guidelines from the Agency for Care and Health.

And what about my water tap?

If you have a water tap, it is, as it were, an extension of your water pipe, so you should use the same procedure as described above:

  • First, open the still water tap for a few minutes before using the water tap again.
  • Then tap about two liters of sparkling water to rinse that tap as well.
  • Is your filter a 3M or IcePure brand and older than 6 months? Then install a new filter anyway. A maximum period of use of 1 year applies to BWT filters.
  • Does the water look strange despite rinsing, does it have an unpleasant smell or taste? Then replace the filter anyway.
  • More information about replacing the filter can be found here.
